VELLO SUB, the first e-cargo bike from Austrian folding bike expert VELLO Bike: compact and weighing in at 24.9 kg, making it the lightest longtail e-cargo bike on the market.
It can carry a total load of 210 kilograms to cater to all transportation needs.
E-cargo bikes have been rising in popularity over the past years accounting for approximately 12% of the total bicycle market in Belgium in 2023. Many cities have acted upon the increased demand for bicycle infrastructure, though the daunting challenges for every day commutes persist: obstacles requiring lifting the bike, finding space to park the bike or keeping the bike safe from theft.
This is where the Viennese folding bike expert VELLO Bike comes in: after a three-year development period, the VELLO SUB (Smart Utility Bike) is made to fit into existing city structures like a normal e-bike, while still being able to carry a total load of 210 kg.
Powerful lightweight with high-end components
The VELLO SUB weighs just 24.9 kilograms, and with its 85 Nm of torque, it is a real powerhouse offering excellent acceleration and climbing ability. It features the new Bosch DualBattery’s intelligent battery management that optimally distributes power between the two batteries. This ensures a balanced discharge, prolonging the lifespan of both batteries and enhancing overall performance, offering thereby a range of up to 250 km. The SUB can be equipped optionally with the ConnectModule with GPS tracking for extra theft protection through the Bosch Flow App. The longtail not only provides space for up to two children and additional cargo but also features practical elements like a sturdy MIK-compatible rear and front rack making it compatible for a variety of easily mountable accessories.
The compact two-wheeler is made to fit into small spaces and its dimension correspond to those of a normal city bike. By means of foldable pedals and footboards as well as handlebars that can be rotated by 90 degrees, the VELLO SUB can be reduced to a width of 29 cm without tools, making it slimmer than some city bikes when parked. Thanks to its 20-inch tires and short standard length of 180 cm, the cargo bike can even be taken on public transport. However, it feels more at home on the road, where its compact size, tested frame geometry, low center of gravity ensures stable, safe and easy steering.
The combination of the quiet and clean Gates belt drive, the Bosch mid motor, hydraulic disc brakes with a four-piston system from Magura, and the internal gear hub make the VELLO SUB an ideal all-round vehicle for urban areas and a reliable companion: a perfect means of transportation for taking the children to school, transporting groceries home in comfort, but also for cycling at the end of the day without traffic jams or parking problems.
The SUB is available with the Enviolo gear hub or the new 3X3 Nine gear system for an even wider range of gear ratios, and optionally with a chromoly or titanium frame.
